On January 6 this year, the cold front as meteorologists call it descended on Europe. We gasped when we arrived to Munich airport in Bavaria. It was one of those rare perfectly clear bright days, with the blue sky reflected in the white snow which covered everything around. The temperature dropped to -20C during the night, quite a record. Next morning dawned rather grey, with snow and frost still in place. We flew away, and as the plane kept gaining altitude we could see the snow-covered land below. Due to the changing time zones while we were still in flight, we could also observe the lurid colors that the skies took, with clearly seen huge patches of snow down below.
