ALSTER LAKE, HAMBURG

Alster Lake, Hamburg, Germany.
Hamburg is beautiful in any season. In spring and summer, one can stay fit simply walking around and enjoying the sights. A walk around bigger Alster Lake is about 8 km long. Lots of people walk in a leisurely fashion, jog, sit around and relax, watching the various scenery. There are lots of swans, geese and ducks floating around. In season, they all are followed by their young, which is a touching picture in itself. If one stops, the birds eagerly approach the shore waiting for some food. There are also plenty of boats, and lots of amateurs rush along the water on surfing boards. The greenery is amazing, with plenty of willows dipping their long branches into the lake. The villas and houses are really handsome; their bright light colors add brightness to any day. After a brisk walk, one emerges straight into Planten un Blumen, the famous botanical garden of Hamburg. There are jogging paths and bicycle treks, flowers and trees in bloom, the rose garden, lots of little ponds covered with water-lillies. There are several public toilets in the area. It is amazing that right in the center of the big city, one can find this wonderful area to enjoy, to relax, and to stay fit.
