TRAVEMUENDE, GERMANY

TRAVEMUENDE, GERMANY.
It is easy to get to the well-known resort town of Travemuende by the daily train from Hamburg. The journey takes less than 90 minutes. The small town is situated right on the sea shore. There are plenty of hotels, pensions, cafes and restaurants, as well as the usual shopping street. If you wish to be really comfortable, you can stay at the Maritim Strand Hotel. It has a good swimming pool and spa, a great restaurant with the panoramic observation area on the 35th floor, and all the modern conveniences. As it is the only tall structure on the shore, you can see it from anywhere. The beach at first glance looks like a gnome village, with its sun-bathing cabins which are locked up when not in use. You may rent one for the day, or relax on the fine white sand with your own towel and umbrella. The North Sea is of course never really warm, and one has to walk a long way from the shore before it becomes really deep. But it is extremely pleasant, the air is clean, the whole area is green. After a nice meal at any of the sea-side cafes, looking at the never-ending ships passing by, one can enjoy a leisurely walk along the streets. The little houses are very charming; there is also an old pretty church, and several parks. It is a great place for a weekend, or for a few days’ rest in summer.
